Peter Millner is a consultant orthopaedic and spinal surgeon at Leeds General Infirmary, having worked for many years with Professor Robert Dickson as senior lecturer in the academic department of orthopaedic surgery at Leeds University and St James’s University Hospital (Jimmy’s). Since Professor Dickson’s retirement, Peter has taken over the role as the senior spinal surgeon and lead clinician for spinal surgery in his NHS Trust.
His clinical and research interests remain largely in the field of spinal deformity and spinal trauma and include ongoing projects with collaborators in the Institute of mechanical and biomedical engineering at the University of Leeds. He has been heavily involved in training the next generation of spinal surgeons, supervising one of the UK’s two national training fellowships in spinal surgery and convening a variety of national and international spinal conferences. He is a regular organiser and faculty member for training courses under the aegis of the University of Leeds, the British Orthopaedic Association, the Royal College of Surgeons and the AO Foundation. He was the founder chairman of the AOSpine UK chapter and served for several years on the Executive Council of the British Scoliosis Society. He remains an active member of AOSpine, the BSS, the British Association of Spinal Surgeons and sits on the council for the British Scoliosis Research Foundation.
